NEXGEN은 앵커리지의 한인 커뮤니 티 내에서 활발히 활동하는 청소년 및 청년 그룹으로, 최근 7월 12일부 터 13일까지 알래스카의 기드우드로 수련회(재충전 휴양)를 다녀왔습니 다. 이번 수련회는 바쁜 커뮤니티 활 동 후 핵심 멤버들에게 필요한 휴식 을 제공했으며, 올해 남은 기간 동안 진행될 프로그램을 구체적으로 계획 할 수 있는 시간이었습니다.

이번 수련회 장소인 기드우드의 고 요한 배경은 NEXGEN 멤버들이 휴 식하고, 유대감을 형성하며, 성과를 돌아보기에 완벽한 장소였습니다. 이 번 휴양에서는 다양한 레크리에이션 활동, 팀 빌딩 시간, 그리고 커뮤니티 서비스 노력을 강화하기 위한 토론 이 포함되었습니다.

한인 커뮤니티에 대한 중요한 기여

NEXGEN은 여러 중요한 행사와 이 니셔티브에서 헌신적인 작업을 통해 한인 커뮤니티를 지원하는 데 중요 한 역할을 했습니다:

지난 6월29일 개최되었던 한-알래 스카 우정의 날 페스티벌에서 NEX- GEN은 이 문화 행사를 조직하고 실 행하는 데 중요한 역할을 했으며, 한 인 커뮤니티와 더 넓은 알래스카 커 뮤니티 간의 유대감을 강화했습니다.

그리고 앵커리지 한인 커뮤니티 장 학의 날은 이 그룹에 자격을 갖춘 고 등학교 졸업생들에게 매년 교육 장 학금을 제공하는 일에 크게 기여했 으며, 교육과 청소년 역량 강화에 대 한 헌신을 강조했습니다.

뿐만아니라 앵커리지 시장 선거에 서 NEXGEN은 시장 선거 기간 동안 한인 커뮤니티를 동원하는 데 주도 적인 역할을 하여 우리들의 목소리가 전달되어 한인사회의 불편함이다소 해결될 수 있도록 했습니다.

그리고 스포츠행사를 통해 NEXGEN 은일요일밤농구를주최하여폴 리네시아인, 필리핀 커뮤니티, 알래 스카의 한인 커뮤니티와의 협력을 증진시켰습니다. 또한, NEXGEN은 Counter-Strike 게임을 위한 GCI Northern Lights Invitational 토너먼트 에 참가할 e-스포츠 팀을 후원했습 니다.

앞으로의 계획

NEXGEN 멤버들은 앞으로 몇 달 동 안의 활동과 이니셔티브를 위한 강 도 높은 일정을 세웠습니다. 올해 남 은 기간 동안 우리는 대통령 선거를 준비하면서 시민 참여 노력에 중점 을 둘 것입니다. 그룹은 창의적인 소 셜 미디어 콘텐츠와 소셜 모임을 활 용하여 청소년과 젊은 성인들이 투 표에 참여하도록 영향을 줄 것입니 다. 또한, 중요한 정보를 한국어로 번 역하여 알래스카의 한인들이 투표를 준비할 수 있도록 도울 것입니다.

이번 수련회 기간 동안, NEXGEN 그 룹의 핵심 멤버들은 앵커리지 한인 커뮤니티의 미래와 커뮤니티의 변화 하는 필요에 대해 더 깊이 논의했습 니다. 알래스카 한인 커뮤니티의 미 래를 구성할 청소년들이 현대 사회 에 통합되고, 첫 세대 이민자들이 세 운 유산을 보존하는 방법에 대한 아 이디어를 논의했습니다. 무엇보다도 이민 2세 혹은 3세들의 청소년들이 미국과 한국의 현대 사회에 융화되 도록 지원하고 자원을 제공하는 방 법과 우리의 한국 유산을 존중하고 보존하는 방법이 논의되었습니다.

NEXGEN의 적극적인 접근 방식과 헌신은 알래스카의 많은 한인들의 삶을 크게 다양하게 했습니다. 우리 들의 노력은 한국인의 가치관과 문 화 유산을 보존하고 청소년들 사이 에서 시민 참여와 교육 발전을 촉진 합니다.

NEXGEN이 계속 성장하고 발전함에 따라, 그들의 커뮤니티에 대한 영향 력은 청소년 리더십의 힘과 문화적 자부심 및 단결의 중요성을 입증합 니다. NEXGEN의 열정적이고 헌신적 인 멤버들 덕분에 앵커리지 한인 커 뮤니티는 활기차고 활동적인 한 해 를 보내고 있으며 한인1세분들의 관 심과 성원을 부탁드립니다.

NEXGEN, an active youth and young adult group within the Korean American Community of Anchorage, recently embarked on a rejuvenating retreat to Girdwood, Alaska, from July 12 to 13. This retreat provided a much-needed respite for the core members following a busy period of community engagement. It allowed them to strategize for upcoming programs for the remainder of the year.

A Time to Unwind and Plan

The serene backdrop of Girdwood offered the perfect setting for the NEXGEN members to relax, bond, and reflect on their accomplishments. The retreat included various recreational activities, time for team-building, and brainstorming sessions to enhance their community service efforts.

Significant Contributions to the Korean Community

NEXGEN has been instrumental in supporting the Korean community through its dedicated work in several key events and initiatives:

K-Alaska Friendship Day Festival: NEXGEN was pivotal in organizing and executing this cultural celebration, which forged stronger ties between the Korean and broader Alaskan communities.

Korean Community of Anchorage Scholarship Day: The group contributed significantly to organizing this event, which annually provides scholarships to deserving high school graduates, underscoring its commitment to education and youth empowerment.

Mayoral Elections: Demonstrating their civic engagement, NEXGEN led efforts to mobilize the Korean community during the recent mayoral elections, ensuring their voices and concerns were heard.

Sports: NEXGEN hosted Sunday night basketball to foster collaboration with Polynesians, the Filipino community, and the Korean community here in Alaska. NEXGEN also sponsored an e-sports team to compete in the GCI Northern Lights Invitational tournament for Counter-Strike.

Looking Ahead

During the retreat, NEXGEN members mapped out a calendar of activities and initiatives for the upcoming months. The remainder of the year will be focused on civic engagement efforts as we gear up for the presidential elections. The group will inspire youth and young adults to vote through creative social media content and social meetups. Additionally, they will work to translate important information into Korean to ensure Koreans in Alaska can be prepared to vote.

Engaging the Future

During this retreat, core members of the NEXGEN group also dug deeper to discuss their thoughts on the future Korean Community of Anchorage and how the needs of the community are changing as we make way for the emerging youth who will make up the future of the Korean community in Alaska while also preserving the legacy of the aging first-generation immigrants who built the foundation of the Korean community in Anchorage. Ideas to support and provide resources for the youth to embrace integration into the modern world and ways to honor and preserve our Korean heritage were discussed.

NEXGEN’s proactive approach and dedication have significantly enriched the lives of many in Alaska. Their efforts preserve cultural heritage and promote youth engagement and educational advancement. As NEXGEN continues to grow and evolve, its impact on the community is a testament to the power of youth leadership and the importance of cultural pride and unity. Thanks to the passionate and committed members of NEXGEN, the Anchorage Korean community can look forward to a vibrant and active year ahead.
