4월 18일(금) 오전 11시, 앵커리지 한인 회관에서 월례 노인 대학 모임이 열렸 다. 이전 모임들과 마찬가지로, 이번 모 임은 가벼운 스트레칭과 간단한 운동으 로 시작되었으며, 이는 어르신들의 신체 와 정신에 활력을 불어넣기 위한 시간 이었다.

이달의 특별 초청 강연자는 알래스카 주 노동 및 인력 개발부 산하 시민권 지 원 사무국의 프로그램 코디네이터 정혜 련(Hye Suh, Hye Ryun Jung)씨 였다. 정 코디네이터는 앵커리지에 거주하는 한 인들을 지원하기 위한 다양한 프로그램 과 서비스에 대해 소개했다. 그녀는 구 직 지원, 취업 연계 프로그램, 성인 교육 기회 등 유용한 자원을 상세히 설명했으 며, 이민자들이 법률적 지원과 정착 서 비스 등을 통해 알래스카 생활을 보다 안정적으로 시작할 수 있도록 돕는 사무 국의 역할을 강조했다.

이날 행사에서는 박중석 주앵커리지 총 영사도 참석하여 새로 부임한 한란영 부 총영사를 한인 어르신들께 소개했다. 한 부총영사는 오는 2025년 6월 3일(화요 일)에 실시되는 선거에 대해 설명하며, 참여 자격이 있는 분들의 적극적인 참여 를 당부했다.

모임은 즐거운 노래방 시간과 한인 어르 신들이 직접 정성껏 준비한 맛있는 점심 식사로 마무리되었다.

앞으로의 일정으로는, 앵커리지의 한인 어르신들이 이번 주에 페어뱅크스로 단 체 여행을 떠날 예정이며, 이는 서로의 우정을 더욱 깊게 하고 새로운 추억을 만드는 즐겁고 편안한 시간이 될 것으로 기대된다.

노인 대학은 어르신들이 유익한 정보와 프로그램을 공유하고, 함께 즐길 수 있 는 활동을 통해 공동체 의식을 느낄 수 있는 소중한 기회를 제공해 왔다. 이러 한 모임은 정신적·신체적 건강 증진, 외로움과 고립감 해소, 인지 기능 향상 등 다양한 긍정적 효과를 가져오며, 삶 의 질을 높이고 소속감과 목적 의식을 심어준다.

다음 노인 대학 모임은 5월 16일(금), 같은 장소인 앵커리지 한인회관에서 열 릴 예정이다.

On Friday, April 18th at 11:00 a.m., the monthly Senior Academy meeting was held at the Korean American Community of Anchorage. As with previous gatherings, the meeting began with light stretching and a brief exercise session designed to help energize both body and mind.

This month’s featured guest speaker was Hye Suh (Hye Ryun Jung), Program Coordinator for the Office of Citizenship Assistance under the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Suh spoke to the attendees about various programs and services available to support the Korean community in Anchorage. Her presentation highlighted resources such as job search assistance, workforce placement programs, and adult education opportunities. She also emphasized her office’s role in helping immigrants access legal support, settlement services, and other valuable tools to navigate life in Alaska more confidently. In addition to the guest speaker, Consul and Head of the Korean Consulate, Park Joongsuk, introduced the new Vice Consul, Ran Young Han. She spoke about the elections, which are set to take place on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, for people who are able to participate.

The meeting concluded with a joyful karaoke session and a delicious meal prepared by members of the Korean senior community.

Looking ahead, many of Anchorage’s Korean seniors are planning a group trip to Fairbanks this week—a chance to enjoy each other’s company and create new memories together in a fun and relaxing setting.

The senior academy has been a great way for seniors to find community through entertainment, sharing helpful resources, and encouragement. Seniors meeting together offers numerous benefits, including improved mental and physical health, reduced isolation and loneliness, and increased cognitive function. These social connections can also enhance their quality of life, provide a sense of purpose, and boost overall well-being. The next meeting is set to take place on May 16th at the Korean American Community of Anchorage.
