앵커리지시, 봄·여름철 무료 목재 폐 기장 운영

우리는 봄맞이 대청소를 진지하게 생각 합니다! 앵커리지시 산불 방재 부서의 존 글로버(John Glover) 과장은 “마당 의 나뭇가지나 나무 쓰레기를 정리하고, 주택 주변에 방어 공간을 만드는 것이 산불 발생 시 집을 보호하는 가장 좋은 방법”이라고 말합니다.

이러한 취지로, 2025년 여름 동안 앵커 리지시 목재 폐기장을 무료로 운영하기 로 결정했습니다. 주민들이 자신의 마당 을 정리하고 이웃과 자신을 보호하는 데 도움을 주기 위함입니다. 눈이 녹고 있 는 지금이야말로 지역사회를 정비하기 에 가장 좋은 시기입니다.

노숙자 문제 해결을 위한 협력

지난주, 수백 명의 지역사회 구성원과 관계자들이 모여 **‘노숙자 문제 해결 정상회의(Turn the Tide on Homelessness)’**에 참여했습니다. 이 회의는 시장실, 시의회, 그리고 **앵커리지 노숙 종식 연합(Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness)**이 공동 주최했습니다.

금요일 발표에서, 시장실, 앵커리지 경 찰서(APD), 소방서, 공원 및 여가부, 보 건국 등 시 소속 부서들이 현재 진행 중 인 다양한 노숙자 관련 활동들을 공유 했습니다. 여기에는 연중 무휴 쉼터 시 스템 구축, 새로운 주택 마련, 공원 정화 활동 등이 포함됩니다.

이와 함께 **시 혁신팀(Muni Innovation Team)**이 개발한 새로운 노숙자 대응 대시보드도 공개되어, 시민 누구나 시의 노숙자 대응 정책에 접근할 수 있게 되 었습니다. 또한 시장은 이번 봄부터 지 역사회 주거지원을 위해 5백만 달러의 연방 임대지원금을 직접 배정할 것이라 고 발표했습니다.

청소년 자문 위원회 위원 모집

한 익명의 지역 기부자의 후원 덕분에, **앵커리지시 청소년 자문 위원회(Youth Advisory Commission)**는 흥미로운 임 무를 맡게 되었습니다. 위원들은 지원금 프로그램을 직접 설계하고, 신청서를 모 집 및 심사하여 수혜 단체를 선정하는 중요한 역할을 수행하게 됩니다.

이는 지역 청소년들이 실제로 지역 사회 단체에 영향력을 행사하고, 미래 세대와 지역사회를 위한 프로젝트에 투자할 수 있는 독특한 기회입니다.

Free woodlots this spring & summer

We take spring cleaning seriously! Wildfire Division Chief John Glover says, “Clearing yards of woody debris and creating defensible space around homes is the best way to prevent a home from catching fire in the event of a wildfire.” Making our municipal wood lots free this summer is our way of helping support Anchorage residents to clear yards to protect themselves and their neighbors. We know residents want to take action, and with the snow melting, it’s the perfect time to spruce up our community.

Central Wood Lot in Midtown Anchorage: Free starting May 1, 2025. Anchorage Municipal Wood Lot in Eagle River: Free starting March 29, 2025.

Working as a team on homelessness

Hundreds of community members and partners gathered last week at a summit to Turn the Tide on Homelessness, co-hosted by the Mayor, Assembly, and Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness. At a presentation on Friday, Municipal team members from the Mayor’s Office, APD, Fire, Parks and Rec, and the Health Department shared all the work taking place – from moving to a year-round shelter system and adding new housing to cleaning up parks. The team launched a brand new dashboard created by the Muni’s innovation team for the public to plug into the Muni’s work on homelessness . . . and the Mayor announced $5 million in federal rental assistance funding that will be going straight to housing community members this spring.

Calling on Youth Advisory Commission members

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous local philanthropist, the Municipality’s Youth Advisory Commission has an exciting job ahead. Members will take the lead in designing a grant program, soliciting applications, and selecting grantees to make positive change in Anchorage. This is a unique opportunity for young people to directly impact local organizations and invest in projects to benefit both the next generation and the broader community. If you know a young leader aged 14-22 with big ideas for our community, encourage them to join the Commission!
