알래스카 족구협회가 주최한 2025 알래 스카 족구협회장배 족구대회가 웬들러 미들스쿨(Wendler Middle School)에서 성황리에 개최되었다. 이번 대회는 참가 선수들과 관중들이 하나가 되어, 우정과 열정, 그리고 한국 문화를 자랑스럽게 나누는 뜻깊은 자리였다.

족구는 축구와 배구의 요소를 결합한 스 포츠로, 오랜 세월 동안 한국인들에게 사랑받아온 대표적인 생활 스포츠이다. 특히 세대를 아우르는 매력이 있어, 다 양한 연령층이 함께 어울리며 경기를 즐 길 수 있는 점이 특징이다. 이번 대회에 도 민첩성과 빠른 반사 신경을 뽐낸 젊 은 선수들부터 오랜 경험을 바탕으로 정 교한 기술과 전략을 선보인 베테랑 선수 들까지 폭넓은 참가자들이 참여하여 열 띤 경쟁을 펼쳤다.

치열한 경쟁과 푸짐한 상금

이번 대회는 수준 높은 경기들이 펼쳐지 며 참가팀 간의 치열한 승부가 이어졌 다. 우승팀에게는 $400의 상금, 준우승 팀에게는 $200, 그리고 3위 팀은 $100 의 상금을 받으며 실력을 인정받았다. 각 경기에서는 강력한 킥, 화려한 수비, 그리고 손에 땀을 쥐게 하는 랠리가 이 어져, 관중들의 환호성과 박수가 끊이 지 않았다.

세대를 잇는 스포츠, 족구

이번 대회는 단순한 승패를 떠나, 족구 가 가진 세대 간 소통의 장으로서의 의 미를 다시 한번 확인하는 계기가 되었 다. 족구는 규칙이 비교적 간단해 모든 연령층이 쉽게 배울 수 있는 스포츠이 며, 동시에 빠르고 박진감 넘치는 경기 흐름 덕분에 누구나 즐길 수 있는 흥미 로운 스포츠이기도 하다.

알래스카에서 계속 성장하는 족구 문화 알래스카 족구협회는 정기적인 경기 및 훈련을 통해 족구의 전통을 이어가고, 한인 사회 내에서 더욱 활성화되도록 노 력하고 있다. 족구는 단순한 스포츠가 아니라, 한국 문화를 알리고, 세대를 연 결하며, 커뮤니티를 더욱 단단하게 만드 는 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.

올해 대회를 성공적으로 마친 선수들과 관중들은 벌써부터 내년 대회를 기대하 며, 다시 한 번 우정과 경쟁, 그리고 한 국 문화의 자부심을 함께 나눌 수 있는 기회를 고대하고 있다.

The Alaska Jokgu Association successfully hosted the 2025 Alaska Jokgu Association President’s Cup Tournament at Wendler Middle School on February 16th, drawing players and spectators alike for a spirited competition filled with camaraderie, skill, and cultural pride. Jokgu, a sport that blends elements of soccer and volleyball, has long been a favorite pastime among Koreans, offering an exciting way for different generations to connect over a shared love of the game. The tournament saw participation from a wide range of players, from younger competitors showcasing agility and quick reflexes to seasoned veterans demonstrating years of refined technique and strategic play.

Fierce Competition and Cash Prizes

The tournament featured several highly competitive matches, with teams battling for the coveted cash prizes. The first-place team walked away with a $400 prize, while second place earned $200, and third place took home $100. Each match was filled with intense rallies, acrobatic saves, and powerful kicks, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Jokgu: A Sport That Bridges Generations

Beyond the competition, the event underscored the unique intergenerational appeal of jokgu. The sport’s relatively simple rules make it accessible to all ages, while its fast-paced nature keeps the game exciting and engaging.

A Growing Tradition in Alaska

The Alaska Jokgu Association has worked tirelessly to promote the sport, organizing regular matches and training sessions to keep the tradition alive within the Korean-American community. As jokgu continues to gain popularity in Alaska, events like this tournament serve as a cultural bridge, helping to preserve and celebrate Korean heritage while fostering connections across generations.

The Jokgu Association President’s Cup tournament was held in a best- of-three format with three participating teams:

Team A: Kim Ki-gon, Andy Kwon, Kim Hak-kwon, Lim Jin-hwan, Lee Jung- seop

Team B: Byun Hae-kyu, Park Ki-jin, Jung Won-seop, Han Sung-min, Jo Shin-hyung, David Choi

Team C: Choi Ik-je, Park Chun-bong, Jeff Oh, Lee Young-taek, Park Moon-su.

Final Standings & Prizes:

· 1st Place: Team B (2 wins, 0 losses) $300 prize

· 2nd Place: Team C (1 win, 1 loss) $200 prize

· 3rd Place: Team A (0 wins, 2 losses) $100 prize

The winning team was led by Byun Hae-kyu, the Sports Association President.

The tournament was filled with intense and unpredictable matches, as each team traded one win and one loss before the decisive third set determined the winner. Every game kept the audience on the edge of their seats, making for a thrilling competition until the very end.
